Brody now has to wear a helmet. But let me clear a few things up for everyone....
- No, he did not have brain surgery
-He is not handicapped
-and it's not because we are avid football fans and we want to "start him young"
(even though that is what Jordan tells everyone)
Helmets are actually really common. I didn't know until now that there are LOTS of reasons that babies need to get them. Brody's reason is that his head needs to be reshaped. He has, in the technical terms, Plagiocephaly and Brachycephaly. Google it:)
Plagiocephaly = flat head
Brachycephaly = too broad
He wears his helmet 23 hours a day. That gives 1 hour to clean the helmet, clean his head or give him a bath, and let him have a break from it.
It has been estimated that he'll need to wear it for approximately 12 weeks. We hope that it will be less than that but we'll just see how it goes.
This is Brody getting his head scanned a few weeks ago. They used a scanner that almost looked like the kind used at the grocery store. When the doctor would run the scanner over a section of Brody's head it would then show up on the screen in 3D. It was really cool to watch. That is how they customize the helmet.
Mom and Dad just barely got into town so they went to the appointment with us. He gets his helmet today!
The doctor had to shave off little by little to fit it perfectly to Brody's face and ears.
He was sooo tired.
Brody kept trying to shake the helmet off. It must've been frustrating for him but he is just so cute we couldn't help but laugh:)
He even went cross-eyed a few times looking up at "the thing on his head"
The next day...cuddling with his toy that Grandma and Grandpa gave him after the doctor. Spoiled boy:)
So...here is the update overall. He has been wearing his helmet now for almost two weeks. He is doing great! Not sleeping through the night anymore...:( but who knows what's responsible for that. He is also teething. He is still the cutest boy I've ever seen:)
We can ALREADY tell a huge difference in the shape of his head and are excited for the end result.
He'll thank us later...
